Michelle Lau

Michelle is a member of AJ Park's ChemBio team and draws on her background in industrial R&D and advanced chemistry to help clients understand the patentability of their innovative technologies.

Expertise

Michelle assists clients with patentability assessments, patent searching, and supports the team with patent drafting and prosecution.

Drawing on her experience in industrial R&D and advanced chemistry, Michelle helps clients navigate the IP landscape surrounding complex technologies. She has particular expertise in sustainable technologies, circular economy innovation, advanced materials, catalysis, and chemical process development, with a strong understanding of how scientific innovations are translated into practical commercial applications.

Experience

Prior to joining AJ Park, Michelle worked as a Research Scientist at Mint Innovation, a company developing sustainable technologies for recovering valuable metals from electronic waste. There, she worked on new product development and process optimisation.

Michelle also completed a PhD (organic chemistry) where she focused on the design of sustainable nanomaterial catalysts derived from waste steams for catalysis purposes. Her research included technologies involving precious metal recovery, lithium-ion battery recycling, and catalyst development for industrial applications.

This combination of academic and industry experience gives Michelle a practical understanding of how innovative technologies are developed, scaled, and applied in commercial settings.

Beyond work

Outside of work, Michelle spends most of her time gardening, going to the gym, and on the pottery wheel in her garage.
