Liz specialises in all aspects of patent practice for electrical, electronic and physics technologies.  Liz joined the firm on 1 November 2000, when the patent attorney firm West-Walker Bennett merged with A J Park.

Liz has experience with a range of technologies including communications, mechanical engineering, semiconductor physics, x-ray scanning and amusement rides.  Her clients are leading New Zealand and international research organisations including Industrial Research Limited, Tait Electronics, the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited.

On a daily basis, Liz:

  • conducts prior art searching and advises on patentability and registrability;
  • conducts watching searches of patent and design records;
  • conducts infringement clearance searching;
  • prepares, files and prosecutes patent and design applications in New Zealand and overseas;
  • provides clients with patent and design infringement and validity advice concerning New Zealand and overseas rights;
  • provides copyright and industrial design advice.


Liz graduated with a first class honours degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Canterbury.  Her degree majors included, computer hardware, signal processing, systems and control and communications.  Liz completed a Masters degree in electrical engineering in 2001.  Her thesis focused on the use of adaptive filters for blind deconvolution in communications.

Liz is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys (NZIPA) and a member of the Intellectual Property Society of New Zealand and Australia (IPSANZ).

Liz is studying law and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
